The second story of the Golden Pavilion is called the Chôondô ("Grotto of Wave Sounds"). Built in the buke style (buke zukuri), used for samurai houses, it features an altar with Kannon seated on a craggy dais in the center, surrounded by guardian images of the Four Heavenly Kings (Shitennô).
