Abbot's Quarters
(Hôjô)

The Abbot's Quarters (Hôjô) at Shôkoku-ji is a large building facing south, which is surrounded by a small ditch. Located to the north of the Dharma Hall (Hattô), the building is adjacent to the Kitchen and Living Quarters (Kuri). The Abbot's Quarters was rebuilt in 1807 (Bunka 4). Measuring 25 meters wide and 16 meters deep, is Hôjô is built on a particularly large scale.
