Chinese Gate
(Karamon)

The Chinese Gate (Karamon) in front of the Abbot's Residence (Hôjô) is a one-bay single-door gate with four supporting pillars (shikyakumon). The undulating curvature of the roof (karahafu, or "Chinese Gable") gives the roof its name. This structure was rebuilt in1842 (Tenpo 10).
